Quins 1st XV Player Awards

By Colin Clarke | 26/04/2017

On Saturday 22nd April 2017, in front of an audience of Sponsors and former players Jeff Davies (Deputy Chairman) welcomed all to the annual Club Presentation event.
Back in August 2016 and under a new Premiership League format, the Quins squad targeted a top eight League finish. They were in 6th place at the split and, following good cup runs, were quarter finalists in the Welsh National Cup and were narrowly beaten in the Final of the Fosters Challenge Cup. It is fair to say that on reflection the Season has been reasonably successful.
Team Manager Steff Thomas congratulated his players on reaching their targets and highlighted several season statistics:

  • The leading try scorer was wing Morgan Griffiths
  • The most points scored went to Steffan Marshall with 150 points
  • Nathan Williams played in the most Matches
  • Morgan Griffiths four tries in the Cup match versus New Castle Emlyn equals the Club record in welch Cup matches
Steff also congratulated Ken Owens for making the British Lions Squad and several of Quins players who had played for the Scarlets during the season. A special mention was given to Rhys Williams for his outstanding contribution to the Quins Club over the past 4 seasons.
During the various competitions the team had called on 48 players, highlighting the young talent that was being developed in the area. Steff thanked all the various Sponsors and the important roll they play in developing Rugby in Carmarthen.

Club President David Harries presented the Clubs most improved player of the season award to
Morgan Griffiths

Robert Morgan presented the Young Player of the Season award to Steffan Marshall

Vice Chairman Jeff Davies  presented the Club Player of the Season award to Ellis Lloyd
Head Coach Richard Kelly presented the 1st Team Player award to Javan Sebastian
