15pts to 7 at the Park in the second round but lost away to Cwmbran in the third round by 23pts to 3. In the West Wales cup they beat Laugharne away from home in the first round by 22pts to 11; beat Waunarlwydd at home in the second round by the
narrowest of margins of 4pts to 3 from a Chris Roberts try but crashed out to

HIGH RIDERS COME A REAL CROPPER.

Quins brought high riding Hendy down to earth with a massive bump on Saturday. Quins, still riding the crest of a wave after their victory over Carmarthen Athletic in the Welsh Cup, again rose to the occasion. They lasted the pace better than Hendy and piled on the pressure from the kick-off.

Dylan Richards drew first blood with a penalty and then added a conversion to a Peter Elsom try to put the Quins 9-0 up at the interval. Hendy, realising that defeat was
imminent, started the second half period in tremendous fashion. They kicked two
penalty goals but never got to the line in the face of stubborn defensive work. Centres James Ward and Geraint Griffiths were particularly impressive in the Quins back line and nipped attacks in the bud with crashing tackles.

With the game in the last quarter the younger and more mobile Quins pack took control. The possession was used to full effect by half backs Chris Roberts and Richards. Emyr Brown, who harried and chased the opposition relentlessly, pounced on a mistake to score a fine try. Then Roberts went down the blind side in a move from the halfway and fed Peter Jenkins. The ace wing raced 50 yards to crash over near the corner to put the Quins 17-6 in front.

The final nail was hammered into the Hendy coffin minutes from `no-side.’ Roberts split the Hendy defence with a blockbusting run and found prop Keith Evans in
support to take the try scoring pass. Dylan Richards added the extra points. After the 1,000 crowd of the previous week only a handful were at the Park to witness this thriller.
