 SEASON 1960/61

West Wales Rugby Union Cup

26th December 1960

Carmarthen 0  –  Crynant 0

In the West Wales Cup match at Carmarthen Park on Boxing Day which ended in a pointless draw, Carmarthen should have ended up as victors. They had the best of matters in a hard and gruelling game and were the superior team on the day.

Joey Davies was a fine pack leader for Carmarthen and in fact was the outstanding player on the field. For Crynant, their inside half was in scintillating form and provided many bright touches. He had the advantage of playing behind a pack who held the upper hand in the scrums, but he was allowed far too much latitude and should have been pulled up for obvious infringements on more than one occasion.

Despite this, Crynant contributed little to back play. Neither did Carmarthen for that matter and one or two backs were not up to their usual standard. Carmarthen missed a penalty goal from a favourable position in the first half and although they were territorially the better side, it was a disappointment to the home spectators that the team did not get a victory which they thoroughly warranted.
