Special Tie Awards – 100 Paul Mathews

Paul (above) being presented with his 100 + Appearances tie by Delme Thomas and Roy Bergiers.
He was also presented with his Dream Team trophy for having being selected as one of the two second rows in the Quins Dream Team 1950-2000. Paul was unable to be present for the Dream Team presenta-tion evening on the 17th February 2012

  • Paul made a total of 111 appearances for the Quins 1st XV between 1999 & 2003.
  • Paul started his senior rugby career spending 5 years at Porthcawl RFC.
  • He then moved on at 24 years of age to spend one season at Maesteg RFC.
  • From there he had a short spell with Bridgend RFC returning after a few months to Maesteg.
  • Joined Aberavon RFC in 1994 and for the two seasons he spent there, he picked up the ‘Most Improved Player’ award and runner up in the ‘Player of the Year’ award in his second season.
  • Transferred to Neath RFC for a brief spell in 1996 but soon moved on to Dunvant. where he stayed for nearly four seasons.
  • Joined the Quins in 1999 and was influential in the club gaining promotion through the Divisions in the Welsh League.
  • He saw off some very strong competition to be chosen as one of the second rows in the Quins Dream Team 1950-2000.
  • He left the Quins in 2003 returning to Porthcawl where he carried on playing for another ten years.
