- A somewhat frustrating performance from the home side, unable to capitalise on first half opportunities
- Length of the field solo try from wing Thomas Williams
- Two points apiece, with both sides climbing the table
Quins got the first half underway with a dominant scrum giving the home side a solid footing in Bridgend’s half.
Scrum penalty after scrum penalty saw Quins move their way up into Bridgend’s 22 but couldn’t capitalise from the territorial gains.
Wing Thomas Williams got close to the try line but waws bundled into touch, and despite a strong rolling maul from a Quins line out, Bridgend eventually had the upper hand after a knock on in the attack.
After twenty minutes of play, and a short spell by Bridgend in Quins’ half, they win a kickable penalty and outside half Luke Price stepped up to open the scoring claiming three points for the visitors.
0-3
Despite a strong attacking phase immediately from the kick-off, once again Quins couldn’t capitalise on territorial advantage with handling errors giving Bridgend an opportunity to clear from their own try line.
With time entering the last ten minutes of the first half, Bridgend’s hooker Tyler Olding went on an attacking run after Quins’ line out ball missed the jumper. He made hard yards into Quins territory, offloaded to Alfie Thomas with Will Greatbanks getting the ball out along the backline. It was a move that led to a Quins penalty, from another knock on.
Moments later Bridgend got the first try of the afternoon having gathered a Quins clearing kick. Winger Cameron Ellis claimed the spoils. Converted by Price
0-10
The Quins finished the first half with an attacking phase of play, with Eilir George and Sam O’Connor both crossing the gain line. A late penalty kick by outside half Ifan Davies was just wide of the uprights, keeping the score at 0-10 at the half time whistle.
Half time: Quins 0 Bridgend Ravens 10
Quins get the second half underway with aplomb. A great attacking phase with Eilir George breaking through Bridgend’s defensive line with ease to win strong territorial advantage for the home side. Scrum half Jac Howells was with him in support and gathered the pop pass. Opening try of the second half secured in the first minute. Converted by Ifan Davies.
7-10
Despite a lengthy spell of Quins dominated attacking play, and the home side crossing the whitewash for a second try, the ball was deemed held up giving Bridgend an opportunity to clear downfield.
Outside half Ifan Davies added an all-important penalty at the hour mark to bring the scores level, after Quins turned over Bridgend’s ball in their own half.
10-10
Bridgend looked dangerous immediately after Quins’ penalty. Territorial advantage, possession and a go forward attitude. A cross-field kick however was their downfall on this occasion despite pressing on Quins’ tryline.
Winger Thomas Williams ran the length of the field, unopposed, to score under the sticks. A superb solo effort on a sodden, heavy pitch. Conversion added by Ifan Davies.
17-10
The game was far from over with Bridgend pushing hard in the final minutes of the clash. After continued pressure on Quins’ defensive line in their 22, Bridgend’s replacement hooker Corey Lewis spotted the gap and used every ounce of strength to get himself over the whitewash. Conversion added by Lloyd Wilkins to bring the score to 17 apiece.
17-17
The score remains at 17-apiece with both sides sharing the spoils at the final whistle.
