Quins got the scoring underway at Carmarthen Park with a push over try for hooker Isaac Young after ten minutes of interchanging play. Carwyn Leggatt-Jones added the conversion.

With the weather taking a turn for the worse an aerial battle ensues with both teams looking to claim a stake for territory.
Quins take the spoils on this occasion. They’re in RGC’s half, the home team work the ball through the phases, and Iestyn Richards finds space making his way into the visitor’s 22. He passes the ball left, with number 8 Lewys Millin ready and waiting to run the ball in under the sticks.
It’s a second Quins try and a second conversion for Carwyn Leggatt-Jones.

A Quins kick to the corner goes long. RGC come back to the mark, inside their own half, for a scrum. They get the ball away and get themselves into Quins territory. It’s tough going in torrential rain and they work their way right up to the tryline.
Quins’ defence holds strong, but referee Ben Whitehouse blows his whistle for a penalty in the home team’s favour. RGC are penalised for holding on to the ball in the ruck and the opportunity to get their first try of the afternoon is lost.
Jac Howells replaces Rhodri Davies who leaves the field due to injury.
Despite spending time in Quins’ half RGC fail to take advantage of the territory advantage. They’re pushed back into their own half, but a penalty allows McBryde to kick for the corner. They’re back on Quins’ 22. The win the ball at the line-out and build through the phases. They have a penalty advantage and opt for a scrum just short of the line.
They attack the line, but Quins’ defence holds strong. The ball is turned over with Howells putting in a clearing kick.
Quins clear downfield, RGC come back on the attack. A penalty for the visitors just inside Quins’ 10m line sees McBryde kick for the corner.
The rain has stopped, the sun is shining, some would say that lady luck is on Quins’ side, but a solid defensive effort halts another attack on their own line.

RGC get the second half underway playing towards town. Quins get up into visitor territory, but McBryde gathers an interception pass, he’s tackled, the ball is regathered and they win a penalty. They kick to touch but the opportunity comes to nothing after a knock on.
Rhys Fawcett and Harry O’Connor replace Sam O’Connor and Ifan James.
Minutes later and RGC have a line out in the shadow of the line. They attack, keep hold of the ball and work through the phases. McBryde has possession of the ball out on the wing. He crosses the whitewash, but the ball is held up.
RGC have several opportunities to attack Quins’ line. Despite crossing the whitewash on a couple of occasions, they fail to bag the try with the ball held up. The try finally comes with a solid driving maul allowing number 8 Sam Williams to claim the five points. McBryde adds the conversion to get the north Walians up to double figures.

Quins feel the pressure as RGC charge down a clearing kick inside the home team’s half.
Replacement outside half Elis Price gets his hands on the ball in time to clear. RGC have the wind in their sails, but Quins have a reprieve as they clear the ball from the line out.
Quins make a break with Ifan Davies running the ball into RGC’s half. Dion Jones is yellow carded for a deliberate knock on.
A third Quins try is on the cards. Davies shows his speed as he makes a break into RGC territory, the ball is worked through the hands with Iori Badham receiving the final pass before crossing in the corner.

Momentum was with RGC in the final five minutes of the seventh-round clash but a combination of handling errors by the visitors, and a solid defensive effort by the Quins, kept them away from the whitewash.
The final five minutes of the game sees RGC continue to fight for scoring opportunities within Quins’ half, but the efforts are denied at each time of asking.
