New book launched to celebrate 150 years of the Quins

From its humble beginnings back in 1874, to becoming a successful semi-professional club, producing regional and international rugby players, Carmarthen RFC has left an indelible mark on the sport and in the hearts of its loyal supporters.

Season 2024-25 will be the 150th season for Carmarthen RFC. An incredible achievement for the club, its members, the town and the sport of rugby as a whole in west Wales.

On Saturday 14th September, the opening weekend of the new Super Rygbi Cymru league season, the club will launch a book to celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary, in the presence of the 1974/75 playing squad.

The book Carmarthen Rugby Football Club 150 Years of the ‘Quins’ serves as a celebration of the rich history, triumphs, and enduring spirit of Carmarthen RFC. It is a testament to the unwavering dedication and passion of the players, coaches, staff, and supporters who have shaped the club’s legacy.

It is a testament to the values of teamwork, perseverance, and community that have been ingrained in the very fabric of Carmarthen RFC. The club’s motto ‘Llwyddiant trwy ymdrech – Success through endeavour,’ does reflect perfectly, not only the last 50 years but the 150 years the club has been in existence.

Chairman of Carmarthen RFC, Jeff Davies, said;

“The book is not just a tribute to the past. It is also a celebration of the present and a glimpse into the future. It is a reminder that Carmarthen RFC’s legacy continues to evolve and thrive, propelled by the unwavering support of its dedicated supporters. It is a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent, fostering a love for the game, and being a pillar of the community.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to Percy Jones and Hugh Griffiths for all their hard work and commitment in compiling such a comprehensive history. Your dedication in preserving the history and spirit of Carmarthen RFC, is truly commendable.”

The book will be on sale from Saturday at Siop y Pentan, Carmarthen, as well as at the Clubhouse with all proceeds donated to Prostate Cymru.
