Quins Young Guns Aim for Silverware

This weekend sees the culmination of a lot of hard work for three of our junior rugby teams. It is of course finals weekend for the Carmarthenshire Game Management Group and  The Quins again have representatives going for honours.
Under 12s
Our under 12s reach the cup final at the first time of asking in Junior rugby. They face Tumble at 10.15am on Sunday having found their way through the competition with relative ease having beaten Cefneithin 50pts to 5pts in the first round, them despatching Burry Port 55-5 in the quarter final and then seeing off the combined Deilo-Drovers team 63-7 in the semi final. It is a great feat only conceding 3 tries in three games.
Through the season the team have tested themselves against the best of not only Carmarthenshire but further afield in Swansea, Bridgend and Pembrokeshire notching up impressive wins against Bridgend Sports, Loughor, Ammanford, Dunvant and Tenby. In fact they have only tasted defeat once this season away to Skewen.
During the season The Young Quins team and Tumble have met twice with the Quins winning both encounters but this is cup rugby and it is all to play for. A great relationship has been built between both teams but this will be set aside for an hour on Sunday morning as the two teams vie to be the best of the best in Carmarthenshire. Whatever the result is rugby will most certainly be the winner on Sunday and we think this is going to be a cracker.
Under 13s
The Under 13s have made a second final this year having been runners up in the cup competition last season. It has been testament to the squad that after suffering a wobble of confidence during the season they have turned things around and made the final on Friday 24th at 6.15pm.
They started the cup campaign with a  narrow defeat to Penybanc going down 20-19. This then placed them in the preliminary round of the plate competition where they defeated Llanelli Wanderers 54-19 where following this they fell to the combined Deilo Drovers team 22-17. Finding themselves in the Bowl competition they found themselves facing Llanelli Wanderers and with confidence restored they despatched the Wanderers 45 – 5 to take their place in  the final against Tumble.
The team have stuck together through thick and thin throughout the season and warmed up with a game against Pontypool last Sunday and ran out convincing winners on the park that will boost the confidence.
Under 16s
Remarkably this will be only the 8th game of the season for the Quins having been hit by the weather and District and Scarlets call ups throughout the season. Notwithstanding that fact the squad is as tight as it possibly can be and give their all when they are together. They find themselves facing Llandovery in the final on Sunday at 4.15pm having beaten Furnace 31-15 in the first round and then Tycroes 28-23 in the semi final. The Drover s find themselves in the final having beaten cup favourites Burry Port convincingly in the first round and then Newcastle Emlyn in the semi final, they will of course see themselves as favourites and the Quins will need to be switched on deal with that but it is cup rugby and anything can happen on the day.
What has been pleasing is that several of this team have already played for the Quins youth this season and this experience will stand them in good stead for the task ahead. Back in November 2021 the Quins started their cup rugby journey at under 12s against Llandovery and  in what could be their last game of junior rugby they find themselves facing each other in the final. Whatever the result Sunday you can be rest assured this Quins squad will not lie down without a fight and will continue to punch above its weight and stick together through thick and thin.
Everyone at the club is extremely proud of all the endeavours of the teams who have made the finals but also the Under 15s who fell agonisingly short in the semi final of the bowl. In addition the next generation of junior rugby players continue to go from strength to strength with great numbers enjoying rugby from Under7s through to Under 11s all of whom are a huge credit to the club.
With the club motto as Llywddiant Trwy Ymdrech / Success Through Endeavour it is plan to see  that the Mini and Junior section have bought into it
