Junior Cup Action – Does Silverware Beckon For our Young Guns?

It is that time of the year again when the Carmarthenshire GMG host their annual finals day and there is a great representation from the Quins with 4 of our 5 age groups going for silverware.

On Sunday the Under 12s will be aiming to keep the Under 12s cup at the Quins when they head to Nantgaredig to play Llanelli Wanderers. The young Quins side have swept all before them this season and find themselves in the Cup Final courtesy of the following victories:

Lampeter 5 Quins 59 in Round 1

Brynamman 5 Quins 14 in the Quarter Final

a walkover in the semi final against a combined Nantgaredig and Tumble team.

We wish the young squad all the very best in their first final.

Our Under 13s head to Nantagredig on Sunday to face St Clears in the final of the plate competition. They have had an indifferent season this year following the successes of last season but they have developed as a group by playing against some of the best sides in South Wales.

They find themselves in the final following a victory over Tycroes in the Cup Competition followed by a defeat to Newcastle Emlyn. A victory against Penybanc in the Quarter Final of the Plate set up a tie against Tycroes again but the Quins were awarded a walkover.

After a long season we know the boys are up for this one and will be aiming to add silverware to their cup wins last season. It would be a fitting end before they head North next week for their end of season tour.

The Under 14s head to Natgaredig for a final of the cup where they will play Pontyberem. Another age group that has swept all before them they will be looking at becoming back to back champions having won the cup last year, They find themselves in the final thanks to the following results:

Penybanc 0 Quins 48 Preliminary Round

Newcastle Emlyn 0 Quins 22

Carmarthen Quins 8 Amman Utd 5.

I am sure we all agree that those are pretty impressive results and they deserve they day up in Natgaredig. All the best to all involved You have this boys.

Our Under 15s head to Ammanford on Friday night in the final of the Bowl where they will host Tumble. Many will not know or understand what this group have been through, Having been decimated by departures in the early season, it would have been easy for the coaches and management to say “hang on, we cant continue and we fold”. But that is not in the Quins DNA and the boys that remained loyal now have their reward by appearing in a final.

It will be a keenly contested game as the boys will go out and leave everything on the field and we are all so proud of what they have achieved in the face of adversity. They really do epitomize the club Motto “Llywddiant Tryw Ymdrech – Success Through Endeavour”

If there was a team of the year award within the club then these boys would rightly be up there as contenders. Enjoy your experience boys and regardless of the result you can hold your heads up high.

Unfortunately,  there is to be no final for our Under 16s who were knocked out of the cup in the semi final against a fired up Kidwelly side. The squad however, can be rightly satisfied with their performances through the season and we look forward to all the players continuing their journey with the Quins Youth.

All at the club are proud of the section and also the minis that are coming up behind them. As a club we take development seriously and look to push players on to bigger and better things. This will not stop and we will continue to develop the next generation of Mighty Quins. Good luck all, go out and enjoy your days you deserve it.
